AIBF 2002

Saturday, October 12, 2002

Well, Saturday turned out to be the last day of official Fiesta activities due to high winds and sporadic rain overnight and into Sunday, but what an end to an amazing week it was! The Dawn Patrol show went off without a hitch, and all the balloons just hung out over the launch field for a while. Then the sun lit up under the sheet of clouds off to the east of the mountains, and the show really heated up for a while. Soon it was back to dull gray skies as the sun rose above the cloud layer and disappeared.

"Ripley's Believe It Or Not" had a TV crew on hand to film the Energizer Bunny for a spot on the high-rated cable show. Diane Karlsson flying the Plano, TX balloon was the camera ship. Apparently they got all the astounding footage they needed, and then some. Should make for a good episode! Look for it on TNN sometime during the winter or spring.

Over the course of the afternoon, the winds picked up as forecast and put a damper on the scheduled evening glow. Not to worry, the organizers had something in mind just in case. Witness the "Kuwaiti Glow." See how badly the burner flames were being blown around? It was WINDY!

All in all, I'll be back next year.

La Ristra had the best crew shirts - I need one!
